Frequently asked questions
Everything about calling landlines and mobiles in 175+ countries straight from your browser — no app, no SIM, no subscription.
Getting started
How does it work?
You call real phone numbers straight from your browser over the internet — no app, no SIM, no software to install. The person you call answers a normal phone call on their landline or mobile.
What do I need?
A modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox), a microphone, and an internet connection. It works on your phone's browser too.
Which countries can I call?
Over 175 countries and territories — landlines and mobiles. Type any number into the rate checker to see the exact per-minute price before you sign up. Premium-rate and satellite numbers aren't supported.
Pricing & credit
What does it cost?
Your first call is a free 1-minute test call — no payment needed. After that, you buy prepaid credit ($5, $10, or $25) and pay per minute of talk time — from $0.02/min. No subscription, no monthly fee, and your credit never expires.
How do I add credit, and does it expire?
Top up your balance by card in $5, $10, or $25 amounts. It's prepaid — you pay per minute as you talk, there's no subscription or auto-renewal, and your credit never expires.
Is my payment secure?
Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe — RobinPhone never sees or stores them. Because credit is prepaid, there are no surprise charges or recurring fees.
What happens when my balance runs low?
Calls won't start once your balance is too low to cover a minute of talk time, and you'll be prompted to top up. Because it's prepaid, you're never charged beyond the credit you've already bought.
Am I charged if the call goes to voicemail?
Yes. If the person doesn't pick up but their voicemail answers, the call has connected — and connected time is billed, rounded up to the minute, exactly as it is with mobile carriers and other calling apps. No service can tell a person apart from a voicemail machine. You are not charged when a call rings out unanswered, hits a busy signal, or is declined without diverting to voicemail. Tip: hang up as soon as you hear the greeting to keep it to the one-minute minimum.
Why do some destinations ask me to top up before I can call?
A few higher-cost destinations require at least one completed top-up before your first call there — a fraud-prevention measure. Your free test call also covers standard-rate destinations only.
Calls & coverage
Is call quality good?
Calls are carried over a tier-1 telephony network. On a stable connection, quality matches a regular phone call.
Can people call me back?
Yes, if you rent a US or Canadian number for $4.95 a month. Calls to it ring in your browser while RobinPhone is open, and answered calls cost $0.03/min. The people you call see a real phone number as the caller ID.
Can I show my own number as the caller ID?
Yes. You can verify a phone number you own and use it as your outgoing caller ID, so the person you call sees your number. If you don't set one up, a valid number is shown instead.
Can I call emergency services like 911, 112 or 999?
No. RobinPhone is an outbound calling app, not a replacement for your phone line, and it can't reach emergency services. Always use a mobile or landline for emergencies.
